One thing you may not know about me is that I’m a strong believer in “branding”.
What I mean by that is that I love coming up with new logos for people/businesses and making all their promotional material – be that business cards, blog headers, website imagery, social media icons and imagery, letter head etc etc.
I just love a strong and consistent message/look…
I think it stems from my prior days as a “Marketing Coordinator” prior to having children. It was one of my favourite (yet at the same time least favourite) jobs I’ve had because I used to be in charge of coordinating all the advertising material for a real estate company. The company’s slogan is “Marketing is Everything” and I really truly believe that is SO the case…
Within the company there were 3 divisions – country, commercial and high end residential. We are talking the most exclusive of the properties out there and as a result the marketing budgets were large and occasionally even clocked over into 5 figures per campaign. It was a lot of work for one person and boy could it be stressful! Hence I had a love hate relationship with the job.
Especially when because I had a great working relationships with a couple of the newspapers, they would often ring me to offer me free advertising if I could get the ads made and to them within the hour.
Anyway I digress…
Why I mention this is because recently I was honoured to be asked by a friend of mine Leanne from She Can Quilt if I would be interested to help her design her branding.
It’s not something I’ve ever officially offered myself out there to do, because I’ve no formal training in the area and so it kind of makes me feel like a fraud doing it for people, but truly it is one of my favourite favourite things to do.
I just LOVE digital design work. So I was really truly thrilled and grateful when Leanne trusted me to help her.
She had been recommended me by another of our friends Cindy of Fluffy Sheep Quilting, who asked me the same thing a year or so ago when she set up her online fabric shop. Again I was honoured and so grateful to be trusted with the role of helping Cindy set up her branding.
So a few weeks ago Leanne and I worked together to design her new website branding and it was a lot of fun.
She and Cindy were both so great to work with! They both had strong ideas of what they wanted and the process was hugely enjoyable for me each time.
Here is Leanne’s final brand look:
blog-
Business Cards –
(Obviously the smudge is where I smudged out her phone number)
And social media icon-
Not that I’m biased or anything but I’m totally in love with the result and I hope Leanne is too.
It helps that her chosen colours are also my all time favourites (as the decor of my house would well attest to – in fact this could almost be the colour chips from all the paint we used 🙂 ).
So there you go, there’s another job I’ve been busy doing during April 🙂
I asked Leanne about her beautiful new logo and was most impressed when she said you designed it. You certainly have a talent for it Kat! I need some help making my PDF patterns look really professional (covers etc) is that something you could help with too?
Love the result and I am sure Leanne will too. Those colors are wonderful!! Keeping busy doing great things like that is sweet!!
Look at that pretty logo, now everyone will want one too. Thank you again for doing it for me, I love it.
Funnily enough, I have always know that if I ever get around to revamping my website you were the person I wanted to do it. Just so you know and are ready when I get around to it. Start thinking woman! 😉
Lucky me…..Leanne showed me in real life and they look fabulous. I could probably use some help in that department myself one of these days.
I absolutely LOVE what you created both for my shop and for Leanne’s site. Any time the opportunity comes up, I will gladly hand out your contact details, wonderful lady!
xx
Wow, I’m impressed Kat! SCQ has a really nice cohesive look to it!
Great job Kat.
This is something that is high on my list of priorities now that I’ve FINALLY got rid of my terrible url and given up the day job. I’ve even had contact with somebody about designing me a new, cooler tartankiwi logo. We’ll see when I finally get my act together and get it all sorted…
