Today I went into town with a $40 off Spotlight voucher burning a whole in my pocket…
It was just itching to be spent and I knew just the thing!…
A very very ambitious thing, but oh my heart if I can pull it off it will be a completely DELICIOUS thing…
So I came home with a big purchase of new yarn…
And a new pattern to {attempt to} make…
Assuming I can pull this off, this is destined to go on our other couch to compliment the lounge quilt.
But to be quite honest I’m really not feeling confident about the whole pulling it off bit. I’m following the pattern as best I can (given that I just started crocheting on Tuesday!) but so far I’m on line 3 and it’s just not looking very chevrony.
After I switch colours the pattern is a bit vague. So I’m unsure as to whether I’m doing it all wrong or whether it just needs more time to take form.
This is why I don’t like patterns – they leave too much open to interpretation!!!
Has anybody made a crochet chevron before?
If so then I’d LOVE to pick your brains if you don’t mind so I can figure out if I’m doing it wrong before I’m too far in to turn back…
Nothing like a little blind ambition to make you feel a bit out of your depth is there?!…

That’s quite a nice gentle chevron in the pattern. I think it won’t show well until you have several rows of the colours together. Just plug away and it will get there. (She says with fingers crossed as it is ages since I crocheted chevrons.)
I love your yarn colours. I have a chevron in progress. The pattern I have is pretty simple but I still needed someone to show me how to get going, hate to say it but mine looked like a zig zag on the 2nd row. How are your chevrons created? I agree with Susan, it’s such a wide chevron that it may take a little to really tell. Can you share a picture of how yours is coming?

OOh. Your colours are gorgeous together. I have some wool in very bright colours and an thinking of adding more and trying a granny stripe or a chevron. Love them both. Good luck with yours.

There’s a big long explanation but a mre concise pattern is listed at the end, and I’ve seen the same instructions in other chevron patterns. Happy crocheting!

I was going to tell you to use Lucy at attic24’s ripple pattern but I see others have already suggested the same. Honestly, if you’ve never read her blog you need to go there. Her patterns are very user-friendly – aka idiot-proof. :oD

Lovely colours…no help here I have only done granny stripe…I am sure you will master it though. x
I crochet but Im left handed so I would only confuse you more 🙁 my humble suggestion would be to grab some wool your not so keen on and do a test run, that way you can unravel without using your new choices 🙂
I crochet, and I am happy to help but I think you have already had lots of very helpful comments.
I especially like the idea of doing a test run first, crochet is fairly quick so it would take no time to try out a test swatch.
Clever you Kat ! Hope it works out but haven’t tried a chevron – you can always bring it with you to Retreat and set up a crochet corner!

Marg tried to teach me to crochet and just ended up wanting to rip her hair (and probably mine ) out.
Crochet is non of my favorite but it will look great, when you are finished! Just be patient and go on! I think it takes a couple of rows until you will see the pattern.
